Anzac Day Update from Anne Stovin from Currumbin RSL

Anne Stovin is the CEO of the Currumbin RSL. Anne is yet again orchestrating what is always a major event for the RSL, The Anzacs Day Dawn Service at Elephant Rock.

This year is the One Hundredth Anniversary of the Anzacs tradition commencing at Gallipoli, and as such the event is expected to be attended by as many as 30,000 people (double normal numbers). As the centenary is such an important occasion the RSL has many further events planned for the period leading up to and after the 25 April. Anne gave us the details of these events, which include a sleep out at the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, and fun run, exhibitions and a pop-up museum. At our breakfast, Anne explained that all money raised by the events away from the dawn service would go towards “Soldier On”, a group set up to assist our new veterans from more recent wars and active service to reintegrate into the community following the psychological issues resulting from their service. Details of all of the RSL Anzacs day activities and supporting events are available on http://australiaremembers.com.au/.

Details of the very important work that Soldier On does is available on https://www.soldieron.org.au/. The Creek to Creek Chamber sees this project as an important way that we can assist the community and once the Soldier On project for QLD is in place we intend to take an active role in its work as a mentor and support network for our returned service men and women going forwards.
